August 22 2026--------------------------------//Been feeling the need to have a place to dump some thoughts, so I'll try doing some old-fashioned blogging, I guess. Like everyone else, I'm exhausted with social media -- especially the lack of any kind of continuity of thought. I don't expect to have anything interesting to say, but I liked the ability to keep everything in one place -- siloed off -- that blogs, etc offered.Right now I'm working on the final 30+ pages of Book of Lorn. I don't do this, ever really, but approaching the end of a gig and probably because I'm nearing 40, I've been thinking a lot about what I want out of comics, long-term. The phrase "five year plan" has beeen kicking around my head a bit too much.What I keep returning to is wanting to have a library of books that I can call my "own", when this whole thing is over. I realized the other day that I've written more music than I have comics, and obviously it's apples to oranges, but that fact really annoyed me.Alongside wrapping up on Lorn, I've been working up materials for a handful of comic book pitches. The most far along of these are Andromeda Blade and Eirlithriad Saga, a space opera and a dark fantasy, respectively.I'm worried about pitching -- in the past when a pitch got turned down, it meant I lost interest in the story entirely. I feel the strongest I ever have about these two ideas, but I keep thinking once the first rejection comes in, I'll be scrambling to find something else to divert my attention to.Interestingly(?), the concept of quality hardly factors in to my dreams/plans. I never think "I want to make a great book that people like" -- it's always "when I'm dead I want there to be 10(or so) books I wrote and drew and who cares if anyone likes them". And if you start doing the math, time is kind of becoming a real concern. I've been walking Loira and trying to brainwash myself by repeating "five books in five years" like a mantra. It's a lofty, likely impossible goal, but maybe aiming for that I can get halfway there.So that's where I am right now. The pitch for Andromeda Blade will go out around the end of September, about the time when Lorn is wrapped. Knowing myself, I'll be in panic mode by then, so hopefully keeping a record of the plan will keep me in check.Keep repeating: "five books in five years".-Giannis
